A One-Year Bible Challenge

A great resolution starting with the new year is to read through the Bible in 2026. As Christians we say we believe the Bible, but do we know what it says? We can by reading or listening to the Bible over the course of 2026. Many people have tried to read through the Bible. And like many resolutions, we struggle to read it. We get distracted by what’s going on around us. We feel defeated when we fall behind. Many times we just give up when we don’t keep up. I want to encourage you to read the Bible through this year. And as I have read through the Bible here are a few things I have learned.

1. Pick a plan. You can find a plan in the YouVersion Bible App, or get a One Year Bible, or find a plan you can print up from the internet. I would encourage you to use a plan that has an Old Testament passage, a New Testament passage, and a psalm and proverb each day.

2. The goal is to read the Bible. Reading the Bible through in one year is not the goal.

3. Do not give up, just keep reading. Even when you miss a day, just pick up where you left off the next day. God will not love you less just because you missed a day.

4. Pray for God to help you reach this goal so you can get to know Him better. You might not get through the Bible this year, but when you get through it you will know God and His word better.

5. When you read each day, choose one of the passages you read each day and ask yourself some questions and even journal your answers.

Who, what, and where of the passage?

What does the passage say about God?

What does the passage say about me?

Is there something I need to do or change based on this passage?

I want to challenge us to read or listen through the Bible this year. I am going to take this challenge again this year. I have read the Bible through using a one year plan many times. Sometimes I miss a day. When I do, I just keep going. When I read or listen through the Bible each year and I always find new insights and am reminded of foundations of our faith. If you read the Bible this year, he will show you wonderful things you didn’t know and remind you how much he loves you and the people he places in your life path.
